About The English Reports
The English Reports reprinted the judgments of the higher English courts from the earlier named reporters, covering cases from 1220 to the 1860s. The set was published in 178 volumes between 1900 and 1932 by Stevens & Sons in London and William Green & Sons in Edinburgh.
Cases are still cited from it today, in the form (1831) 131 ER 305, the volume number coming before the ER.
A 1930 index chart shows which of the original reports feed each volume. If you have it, include it in your photos.
What to send us for a valuation
- How many of the 178 volumes you have, and which are missing.
- Whether the index chart is there.
- The state of the bindings, which on a set printed between 1900 and 1932 is worth a close look for loose boards and damp.
- The town or postcode where the set is.
Photos taken straight on to the shelves, in good light, are the quickest way for us to read the spines. We pack the books ourselves and pay the transport, so there is nothing to box up before we arrive.
