About The Law Reports and the Weekly Law Reports
The Incorporated Council of Law Reporting was founded in 1865. It publishes The Law Reports in four series: Appeal Cases, the Chancery Division, the Family Division, which was the Probate series until 1972, and the Queen's Bench Division, which is the King's Bench Division in the years a king reigned.
It is often called the official series, and the High Court and the Court of Appeal require a case reported in The Law Reports to be cited from that source.
The Council has published the Weekly Law Reports since 1953. It also publishes the Industrial Cases Reports, from 1975, and the Business Law Reports, from 2007. If they share your shelves, include them in your photos.
What to send us for a valuation
- Which series you have: Appeal Cases, Chancery, Family or Probate, and Queen's or King's Bench.
- The years of each series, and the years of any Weekly Law Reports.
- Any Industrial Cases Reports or Business Law Reports on the same shelves.
- The state of the bindings, and the town or postcode where the books are.
Photos taken straight on to the shelves, in good light, are the quickest way for us to read the spines. We pack the books ourselves and pay the transport, so there is nothing to box up before we arrive.
